Masai Mara Game Reserve is one of the best known and important wildlife conservation and wilderness areas in Africa. The Mara is magnificent, home to Kenya’s richest concentration of wildlife and regarded by many travelers as an essential stop on any tour of Africa. When travelers think of Africa and safari, this is place they imagine – golden grassland plains pocked with acacia, wildebeests, zebras, lions and jackals bound together by the cycle of life and death. Maasai Mara is also best known for the annual wildebeest migration which unfolds between the months of July-October, as large herds of over a million plus wildebeest migrate north into Masai Mara from the neighboring Serengeti National Park located in Tanzania, crossing the crocodile-infested Mara River on the way. The perilous crossing is an iconic moment of the migration capturing the attention of wildlife enthusiast the world over.

On the second day of your Masai Mara safari, you will have a full-day game drive in a safari vehicle. This means you will only return at sunset after enjoying all the views of the game reserve. This day is wholly dedicated to game drive. The day starts with a sumptuous breakfast at 7:00 AM. Without wasting time you are in the wild partaking in the exciting morning game drive.
The morning drive starts slowly, giving you time to absorb the wonders in front of your eyes. The lavishly orange sunrise, pin-drop silence and generous wildlife sightings are why morning safaris in the Mara are regarded as the best and most rewarding. At dawn elephants, zebras, leopard and cheetahs are calmer, fresher and hard at work in search of replenishment.
Feel free to ask your guide to stop for you to take better photos or a video of something interesting. If you are a bird watcher, the Masai Mara has over 400 species of birds. Be sure to carry your binoculars for this.
So much so like the evening game drives, morning game drives are an overflow of wildlife, birds and unique ambiences. Sunrise mainly makes this one a little more memorable. Your exclusive open roof top land cruiser traverses the breathtaking panorama, exposing you to varieties of wildlife and beautiful vegetation. You will get to learn so much more from our guide.
After crisscrossing the Masai Mara all morning and taking all the action, your safari guide will take you to a perfect spot for a picnic lunch. One of the most exciting parts of the safari is having a picnic lunch in the middle of the savannah.
It also makes time for some very Instagram-worthy photos, so take every chance you can to immortalize your 2 nights Masai Mara safari. After lunch, you will embark on the second part of your safari. Your driver guide will take you to a different part of the vast park, giving you a chance to experience everything that the Masai Mara has to offer.
The panorama is effortless when our guide takes you through the scenic plains of the Mara to see the reserve. Your game drive then stretches on, efforts fully poured into finding wildlife that might have escaped in the previous drives. Fasten your seat belt and ready yourselves for adventure because your guide will leave no stone unturned in the park!
Other worthy stops during the rest of your game drives include the Oloololo Escarpment, which offers a spectacular bird’s eye view of the park. To admire is the wildlife-swamped watering hole that sits directly below the escarpment.
The drive will span till evening when you can take advantage of the sunset and the tranquil ambience to take some photos. At 4:00 PM, you will drive slowly in the direction of your lodge. Enjoy the fullness of the park as the animals come out again to graze for dinner. Head back to your accommodation for dinner and overnight stay.
EXTRA ACTIVITIES IN MASAI MARA AT AN ADDITIONAL COST
No visit to the Masai Mara is complete without experiencing the rich culture of the Maasai people. Cultural visits offer a glimpse into these semi-nomadic people’s traditional way of life, known for their distinctive customs, dress, and relationship with the land. By engaging with the Maasai, visitors gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the human-nature bond, a core element of why the Masai Mara is famous.
Much as we love the eye catching art work, exciting dances and story telling that come with the Maasai, their marveling yet straight forward architecture takes the cake. This visit to a Maasai village is a chance to interact with the Maasai and get a glimpse into their culture, unique way of life and see first-hand some of their customs and practices.
Bring your dancing shoes with you because there’s no way you are leaving here before breaking a leg! You will have a great time interacting with the Maasai people.
To also look forward to during your visit are beautiful handmade Masai beads, which will serve as the best souvenirs to your African adventure.
Cow dung, a little mud, sticks here and there and a little grass thatch on top is what the (Manyatta) hut is built of. How this keeps away the dangerous wildlife is a tale only the Maasai tell best!.
HOT-AIR BALLOON SAFARI
For a truly unique perspective, the hot-air balloon safaris in the Masai Mara are unbeatable. Floating gently above the rolling grasslands and winding rivers, these safaris provide a bird’s eye view of the vastness and beauty of the Mara. This serene experience, often at sunrise, presents the Mara in a different light, highlighting why the Masai Mara is famous for its sweeping landscapes and wildlife. The flight ends with a delicious breakfast taken right at the heart of the wild, then you are transferred back to your lodge.
DAY 3: DEPARTURE
It is said that every good thing must come to an end and that is true with a 3 days Masai Mara safari. On this last day, you will wake up to an early breakfast at around 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM, after which you will proceed to check-out from your Lodge at 9:00 AM. Depart for a return road transfer back to Nairobi carrying with you cherished memories of adventure and relaxation. Upon arrival, your assigned professional driver guide will drop you off in your initial pick up location. This will then mark the end of your safari. He will proceed to bid a fond goodbye.
